First Impressions: Elf Highlighter

“Shoop shoop ba-DUPE shoop ba-DUPE shoop ba-DUPE ba-DUPE ba-DUPE..”

The answer is makeup.

Hello my little beauties! If you haven’t caught on to some of my other posts – I love myself a good dupe! I would much rather not have to spend all my hard-earned money on beauty products, but in the same respect, I can’t live without them. In this week’s blogpost, I am here to share with you yet another fabulous dupe and help you save yourself some serious coin! I have been hearing rave reviews about this product and finally (once Jaclyn Hill bought it) had to snag one for myself. I really don’t know why I waited to buy it as it’s SOO cheap?

Please, allow me to introduce you to your new favourite highlight:

E.L.F. Studio Baked Highlighter in “Moonlight Pearls”

E.L.F. describes their baked highlighters as:

“This highlighter creates a radiant glow with a sheer wash of shimmering colour. Infused with Vitamin E and hydrating jojoba, rose hip, sunflower, apricot, and grape oils to nourish your skin. The highlighter can be applied wet for a vibrant effect or dry for sheer pigmentation.”

One of the main comments I had read in reviews of this highlighter is that before your first use, you need to scrape off the top layer. Which I found kind of strange, but nothing surprises me in the beauty world anymore (did you see how beauty bloggers were using tampons to apply their foundation!?) All of the reviews stated that the colour payoff in this highlighter is not ideal on the top layer. I did try a swatch before scraping anything off and honestly, there was nothing on my finger. After I scraped a little bit off – holy wow! All of the reviews were bang on! I fell instantly in love with Moonlight Pearls.

Moonlight Pearls is a warm toned, champagne colour and has fine shimmers. This highlighter gives your skin the perfect glow. This shade would be perfect for a variety of skin tones as it is very neutral! It is not too vanilla yet not too golden. Although the packaging looks small – a little bit goes a long way when it comes to this highlighter which means it will last a very long time!

To apply, I used the Morphe R12 Deluxe Highlight Fan Brush. I gently picked up some of the highlighter on my brush (since it is highly pigmented) and lightly applied it to my cheekbones, the bridge of my nose and my cupid’s bow. I have also used Moonlight Pearls as a highlight for my brow bone and applied it to the inner corners of my eyes and it is fantastic!

Do you want to know the best part?

Moonlight Pearls is an amazing dupe for The Balm’s Mary Lou-Manizer which costs around $30. I picked up Moonlight Pearls at my local Loblaws grocery store for only $4!!! Yes – you read that right. FOUR DOLLARS!

Now there are other shades of the E.L.F. Studio Baked Highlighters online, but Loblaws only had Moonlight Pearls. I know Walmart also carries E.L.F. products. Unfortunately, at the Walmart here in Kingston, their stock always seems to be low on E.L.F. products – whhyyyy?!

I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a great highlighter to compliment pretty much any look. It is so inexpensive and the product is actually amazing – it is pretty much a win-win situation!

I must say, I have been really impressed with some of E.L.F’s products lately. Their packaging is super cheap and not all that great, but who really cares if you are getting amazing products for less than $5!?

Do me a favour and try out Moonlight Pearls and let me know what you think!

That’s Y!
